A great example of how a monthly DPC membership can actually save you money

When you think about a monthly membership for your healthcare, it can seem like a lot. So here’s a real-world example of what happened to one of our patients before she joined our clinic. This is part of what led her to see the value in a DPC membership.

She had a bit of a cold and was travelling soon, so she wanted to get treated appropriately ASAP so it wouldn’t interfere with her plans. She couldn’t see her usual doctor since they didn’t have space last minute, so she went to her local urgent care. There, they checked her for strep throat and covid. They also gave her a steroid shot to see if that would help her bounce back faster. At Homestead Direct Primary Care, this visit would have cost $40 for the steroids, $20 for the covid test, and otherwise be entirely included in her membership fee. So what did it cost her?

Copy of a bill showing they charged $4,028 just for seeing her, $363 for a strep test, $581 for a covid test, $247 to give a shot, and $100 for the medicine.

Luckily, this patient had health insurance, so she paid nothing out of pocket! Just kidding, I wish that were true. She was responsible for $2,100 for this little visit. That was more expensive than the trip she had planned.

$2,100 would cover 2 years of membership for her. And in that two years, who knows how many late-night questions she might email her doctor directly that would save her some worry, how many UTIs she would just send a text message for that will get her the appropriate antibiotics promptly, and maybe she might even cut herself chopping green beans and save herself an ER visit (and ER bill!) with some stitches after hours with Dr. Langley.

So save your money for vacation, and rest easily in the knowledge that you’ve got your own doctor looking out for you to avoid these kinds of surprises, insurance or no insurance.
